How strong is Ron Paul's support within the Republican party?

Karl Rove was on Bill O'Reilly the other day trying to enforce the impression that Ron Paul supporters are just a bunch of kooks and weirdos and that his supporters represent a very small minority of the party despite any polls that seem evidence to the contrary. How accurate is he about the number of Paul supporters?
